South Africa!

Today Emily, Evan and I leave for South Africa! We'll be there for three weeks. We'll be spending the first two weeks in Johannesburg as we lead a team of 16 people on a short term mission trip. Our hope is to provide some more support to Christian Revival Ministries and pastor Josiah, whom PPM has partnered with a handful of times over the last number of years. We'll be doing a VBS program, leading evangelistic church services, and working on some maintenance projects at a few local schools in the area. We'll be diving into some history and cultural things as well- including visiting the Apartheid museum, Soweto, and possibly Lilieslief in Rivonia. The latter part of our trip will be spent in Knysna on the south coast and we'll finish our time in Cape Town before heading home. We are specifically praying that Evan does well on the 15 hour flight to Johannesburg, and of course we would appreciate prayers for our overall health, safety, and success in ministry!

Jamaica, Neighbors, & Our continual mission field

Jamaica's youth, our neighbors Jamaica has come upon some rough political times in the last two years. Recently, the Jamaican Labour Party lost elections to Portia Simpson Miller (the new prime minister) and the People's National Party. As I drove through Kingston on the day of the election and spent time in the city the days following the election I reflected on some things about the country. The first is that Jamaica is a growing country with a bright future. The education and health care systems are fantastic and there are great opportunities for economic growth. Although statistics show that Jamaica is a "developing country," there are strong industries and hope for a bright future for the young Jamaican workforce. Something else I noticed was the overall stability of the people and environment. Kingston is a big city- like almost 2 million people. God is Good. He has been teaching me so much lately. I am reminded that we serve an infinite God, which means there is always MORE OF HIM to be had. I am not one who frequently “hears the voice of God”. But recently, in the midst of a challenging time, he spoke clearly to me. So I am writing this so not to forget and maybe to encourage those who come across this blog. The last few months have been a whirlwind. They have challenged me beyond belief yet within the challenges I have seen God and heard God more clearly than I have in a very long time.
