Welcome to my blog. I don't post / update this nearly as much as I should, but it's worth it to try to keep many years of memories in one spot, and I occasionally enjoy a good writing session! Many of the posts you'll see in this blog dating back to 2007 relate to my experiences with Praying Pelican Missions- who I served full time in ministry with until 2016. My Facebook page is a great source of information on life for our family as well, as I definitely keep that updated more often! https://www.facebook.com/jon.nelson86.

Jamaican Highlights As you likely know, i've spent a good amount of time over the past 8 years serving in Jamaica. I typically spend a few months of the year on the island helping guide our ministry and leading short term mission teams. Jamaica is such a small country but is literally packed full of awesomeness. I am beginning a series of blog posts that will highlight some of my favorites of Jamaica. Jamaica, Neighbors, & Our continual mission field

Jamaica's youth, our neighbors Jamaica has come upon some rough political times in the last two years. Recently, the Jamaican Labour Party lost elections to Portia Simpson Miller (the new prime minister) and the People's National Party. As I drove through Kingston on the day of the election and spent time in the city the days following the election I reflected on some things about the country. The first is that Jamaica is a growing country with a bright future. The education and health care systems are fantastic and there are great opportunities for economic growth. Although statistics show that Jamaica is a "developing country," there are strong industries and hope for a bright future for the young Jamaican workforce. Something else I noticed was the overall stability of the people and environment. Kingston is a big city- like almost 2 million people. God is Good. He has been teaching me so much lately. I am reminded that we serve an infinite God, which means there is always MORE OF HIM to be had. I am not one who frequently “hears the voice of God”. But recently, in the midst of a challenging time, he spoke clearly to me. So I am writing this so not to forget and maybe to encourage those who come across this blog. The last few months have been a whirlwind. They have challenged me beyond belief yet within the challenges I have seen God and heard God more clearly than I have in a very long time. To back-track a little: What happened in the last few months is the product of 10 years of prayer, sacrifice and trust. 10 years ago, I graduated high school with the calling to go into the healthcare field.
