Happenings in Jamaica

For those interested in what I'm doing in Jamaica- I'd love to give you a little update.

Last week I served in the Old Harbour area of the parish of St. Catherine. I had three different teams from different churches- they were all fantastic. Our teams served in three different communities including Bannister, Hartlands, and Old Harbour Bay. The ministry activities including interactions with children through Bible curriculum, sports, crafts, etc. Our teams also engaged in physical work- constructing a chicken coop in Old Harbour Bay for a church member, building a sidewalk in Hartlands to help with the flooding situation, and doing some painting and helping construct porches on the church building in Bannister. God surely was at work through the week. One of our teams connected strongly with some young adult men in Old Harbour Bay through basketball ministry- playing games of basketball on a nightly basis which opened the door for relationships to be developed and seeds of the gospel to be planted! The church body and those who served our teams as we stayed at Old Harbour Bay Baptist were amazing. It was a joy serving alongside our staff, and partnering with Pastor Robert Campbell of the Baptist Churches and Pastor Winston Bell of the Bannister NT Church of God. This week I am spending time meeting with pastors, church leaders, bus drivers, cooks, work leaders, etc as we prepare for more teams and more God honoring ministry in Jamaica. Below are a few pictures...

Below: Mr. Curly is visited by myself and Mr. Longmore from the Roses Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Curly is a blind man that lives in an extremely rural part of Jamaica. He walks about a mile each week to the church despite his lack of sight. The little one room building he lives in needs repair and our team plans to replace some boards and paint it for him during the week of July 21st. He was a joy to meet today.

Below: Pastor Winston Bell addresses our Orange UMC youth team towards the end of their time of ministry in Bannister. We had a chance to pray for Pastor Bell and his ministry.

Below: Michael Seger, one of the team members from the First Baptist Church of Pontotoc, MS hammers in a post for Marsha's chicken coop in Old Harbour Bay.

Below: Justin and Jake from Salem Bible work alongside Aaron, the work leader in Hastings, as they lay block to establish the sides of the sidewalk the team built for the school.
