Jamaica 2011 summary

Wow, the summer blew by. I hoped to blog once a week and I didn't really blog at all. I was able to keep a journal of my personal thoughts and experiences, of which I'm grateful for. In summary, the ministry in Jamaica this summer went very well. Let me highlight a few things that happened.
We had a couple teams serve in the Deeside area. I had a couple pictures on my last blog of the Deeside Basic School and the Hastings Primary School, along with a photo of the Galloway home. We've nearly finished each of these projects. One of our teams from PA donated what should be the last of the funding needed to complete the home for Mr. and Mrs. Galloway. The school buildings in Deeside for both schools (Basic school and Primary School) should be ready to use for the school year beginning in September! God is good and He provided awesome opportunities for our teams to make an impact in this community and in other communities. Pastor Owen Brown has been a great partner in ministry throughout the course of the summer and I cannot say enough about how helpful and great Carmen Saint has been as she's helped serve our teams that have come to the Unity circuit of Baptist Churches.
This summer I led five trips. All of my trips had multiple teams on the trip except for the first week, during which I had a team of 76 people from First Presbyterian Church in Marietta, GA. One of my highlights this summer was being able to lead a trip for my brother's church in the Lawrence Tavern circuit of Baptist Churches. It was great working with my brother and getting to know his pastor and the youth that he brought on the trip. We're excited to hopefully do it again next year- maybe in Haiti! My brother's team painted the Mizpah Baptist church inside and out and laid a tile floor for a new kitchen that one of our teams started last year. They also replaced a ceiling in the back of the church that was rotting. Of course they also led a great VBS program for the children from the church and the community. It was a great week of ministry to finish off the summer.
Our trip leaders in Jamaica this summer were: Myself, Brian Zeschke, Ricardo Ross, Rachael Blackmer, Christopher Fry, and Jennie Osterholt. All of our trip leaders did an awesome job. This was the first summer we had a good number of Jamaicans on our staff. Our Jamaican staff members included: Terry Ann Hall, Naciena Kayiga, Ricardo Ross, Eric Williams, Robert Campbell, Jahavid Johnson, Moloney Barrette, Glendon Hazle, Danielle Redwood, and George Bailey.
From the beginning of March through the summer (and through a couple December 2011 trips) there have been just over 1000 people who have served in Jamaica in 2011. That's super exciting. I'm looking forward to some continued restructuring and following the lead of God as we continue to strive to bring support to various churches and schools throughout the island. I hope to post some great pictures soon that share about the summer in more details.
