Fullersfield, Westmoreland, Jamaica

I've spent the past week in a town west of MoBay called Grange Hill. It's in the Westmoreland Parrish. We worked with a church in Fullersfield, a short drive from the town of Grange Hill. Pastor Douglas Fowles oversees five churches in his circuit. He is an amazing pastor with a heart for God and His people. Westview Baptist Church from Opp, Alabama was a pleasure to have for the week of ministry. We focused on painting the church inside and out; putting on a sports camp where children learned how to play games like dodge ball and American football, but also had spiritual feeding through devotions; and school ministry out at Paul Island Primary School. I will never forget the girl that sang the song for us at the end of the week. It was the song "The blood will never lose it's power." She sang it with so much gusto and love and joy, and wasn't doing it for show but was doing it out of love and you could tell that the love of Christ was flowing through her. After finishing up with Westview and the Fullersfield church I headed for Kingston. I currently sit on a picnic bench at the United Theological College of the West Indies. This week I have two Catholic churches joining me for ministry at Missionaries of the Poor. I'm quite looking forward to our work at their facilities, showing God's love by taking care of mentally and physically ill children and adults.

Jamaica, Neighbors, & Our continual mission field

Jamaica's youth, our neighbors Jamaica has come upon some rough political times in the last two years. Recently, the Jamaican Labour Party lost elections to Portia Simpson Miller (the new prime minister) and the People's National Party. As I drove through Kingston on the day of the election and spent time in the city the days following the election I reflected on some things about the country. The first is that Jamaica is a growing country with a bright future. The education and health care systems are fantastic and there are great opportunities for economic growth. Although statistics show that Jamaica is a "developing country," there are strong industries and hope for a bright future for the young Jamaican workforce. Something else I noticed was the overall stability of the people and environment. Kingston is a big city- like almost 2 million people. God is Good. He has been teaching me so much lately. I am reminded that we serve an infinite God, which means there is always MORE OF HIM to be had. I am not one who frequently “hears the voice of God”. But recently, in the midst of a challenging time, he spoke clearly to me. So I am writing this so not to forget and maybe to encourage those who come across this blog. The last few months have been a whirlwind. They have challenged me beyond belief yet within the challenges I have seen God and heard God more clearly than I have in a very long time.
