About a year ago Praying Pelican Missions had the opportunity to adopt a school in the rural community of Deeside, Trelawny. This school, called the Hastings Primary School, doesn't exactly have enough room in their classes for all their students. It's simply crammed. And they can't get any funding from the government to help put up a new facility or expand. One of our close friends and ministry partners, pastor Owen Brown of the Hastings Baptist Church, is the chairman of the school board. When we approached pastor Brown with the offer to bring mission teams to the area and support his circuit of churches, he quickly encouraged us to support this school. The impact our mission efforts have in Deeside are exponentially felt when we can undertake a project that supports education. Jamaicans are very serious about their schooling and our working with the school and assisting them in this effort causes change throughout the entire community and area. Our team that worked on the Galloway home in early June from 1st Presbyterian Church in Marietta, GA poses for a picture as they finish their week of work and ministry. They got a ton accomplished and the home is near completion in August of 2011! The Galloway's will have a new safe, dry, and comfortable place to live very soon!

This is a picture of the new addition at the Deeside Basic School. The building will double the size of their facility. The roof is now up and the floor is poured. The windows and doors may even be in at this point, but it will surely be used for the school year beginning in September of 2011.

               Below is a picture of the Deeside Basic School. When we began in March the facility consisted of the green building. Our mission teams this summer will continue construction on the school. The school has over 25 children and is affiliated with the Hastings Baptist Church (in the background). You can start to see two windows forming around the cinder blocks. On the far right there will be a bathroom. This project will double the size of this school, allowing much needed room for the students and teachers, and eventually will provide more income for the church through the basic school.                                        Below is a picture of Merrick Williams (left) and Mr. Galloway (right).
