Asbury UMC coming to Jamaica

    Asbury United Methodist Church from Tulsa, OK will be traveling to Jamaica on Sunday, March 13th. There are 104 team members who are divided into 7 groups. Can you imagine the logistics that are built into a trip like this? From lodging to transportation to the ministry the team will be involved in to recreation, there's a ton that needs to be done in order for a team to have a successful mission trip. That's my job, that's exactly what I do, I make sure that everything is in place and that the team is set up to have a successful week of ministry partnering with Jamaican churches and schools.
    Asbury will partner with five five different schools in the mornings on Monday through Friday, bringing an hour and a half curriculum with Bible teachings, education, etc. They will be connecting with Jamaican students, mostly ages 7-14. In the afternoons Asbury will be helping with a variety of work projects, including the construction of a couple school buildings and the construction of homes in poor communities. Pray that God works in the lives of our team members as the continue to prepare and pray that God adequately prepares our staff spiritually and physically, that we might be ready to lead God's people during this week in Jamaica. Exciting times!

Jamaica, Neighbors, & Our continual mission field

Jamaica's youth, our neighbors Jamaica has come upon some rough political times in the last two years. Recently, the Jamaican Labour Party lost elections to Portia Simpson Miller (the new prime minister) and the People's National Party. As I drove through Kingston on the day of the election and spent time in the city the days following the election I reflected on some things about the country. The first is that Jamaica is a growing country with a bright future. The education and health care systems are fantastic and there are great opportunities for economic growth. Although statistics show that Jamaica is a "developing country," there are strong industries and hope for a bright future for the young Jamaican workforce. God is Good. He has been teaching me so much lately. I am reminded that we serve an infinite God, which means there is always MORE OF HIM to be had. I am not one who frequently “hears the voice of God”. But recently, in the midst of a challenging time, he spoke clearly to me.
