Bermudian Landing- January 2008

I believe the last time I wrote was in July. Since then many things have happened. I enjoyed a great summer of working for PPM last summer. I am still in school and am about to finish my senior semester in Missouri. I have accepted a full time job with Praying Pelican Missions, I will be starting in May working from Minneapolis, MN.I leave on Sunday for Belize once again. I will be joining Brittney Johnson in Bermudian Landing. We're leading a Viatnamese church from New York. That’s the majority of what I know about the trip right now. Brittney is leading it and she knows most of the details. The team is fairly small, about fifteen I think. I hope and am praying that it will be a fulfilling trip. I give the whole thing to God. I'm looking forward to not only this trip but the rest of my participation with PPM. God Bless those who read this and keep our mission in prayer.- Jon Nelson

Jamaican Highlights As you likely know, i've spent a good amount of time over the past 8 years serving in Jamaica. Jamaica, Neighbors, & Our continual mission field

Jamaica's youth, our neighbors Jamaica has come upon some rough political times in the last two years. Recently, the Jamaican Labour Party lost elections to Portia Simpson Miller (the new prime minister) and the People's National Party. As I drove through Kingston on the day of the election and spent time in the city the days following the election I reflected on some things about the country. The first is that Jamaica is a growing country with a bright future. The education and health care systems are fantastic and there are great opportunities for economic growth. Although statistics show that Jamaica is a "developing country," there are strong industries and hope for a bright future for the young Jamaican workforce. Something else I noticed was the overall stability of the people and environment. Kingston is a big city- like almost 2 million people. God is Good. He has been teaching me so much lately. I am reminded that we serve an infinite God, which means there is always MORE OF HIM to be had. I am not one who frequently “hears the voice of God”. But recently, in the midst of a challenging time, he spoke clearly to me. So I am writing this so not to forget and maybe to encourage those who come across this blog. The last few months have been a whirlwind. They have challenged me beyond belief yet within the challenges I have seen God and heard God more clearly than I have in a very long time.
